Policy

Equality and inclusion

Inclusive design, paid participation, reasonable adjustments and how we handle discrimination concerns.

Commitment

Young Futures Digital Limited is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in who we work with, who we employ and pay, how we design and what we build. We comply with the Equality Act 2010 and we go further where our work with young people and communities calls for it.

Inclusive design

  • Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA is a requirement for everything we ship, not an add-on.
  • We design for older devices, slower connections and people with limited data.
  • We use plain English and, where partners need it, translations and easy-read versions.
  • We test for geographic and demographic bias in any community data before it is used.
  • Participation is designed so that people who are usually missing from consultation can take part: timing, location, format, language, payment and support are all considered.

Participation and pay

  • Substantial contribution to our work is paid, for adults and for young people, at a rate agreed with the host organisation and never below the London Living Wage equivalent for adults.
  • Reasonable adjustments are offered to every participant and are budgeted for in every project.
  • We aim for participant groups that reflect the communities a project serves and we record who was and was not in the room.

Employment and suppliers

  • Recruitment is based on skills and potential. We advertise openly and offer adjustments at every stage.
  • We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or victimisation. Concerns are handled under our complaints process and, where they involve staff, under employment procedures.
  • We ask suppliers and partners to meet the same standards by written agreement.

Raising a concern

If you experience or witness discrimination in connection with our work, email hello@youngfuturesdigital.co.uk with the subject “Complaint or concern” or speak to the named lead for the project. We acknowledge within one working day and follow the complaints process.

Monitoring and review

We record participation and recruitment data in aggregate to check whether we are reaching the people we intend to reach.
