For young people

Privacy information for young people

If you are under 18 and take part in something we run, this page explains in plain words what happens to anything you share with us.

Who we are

We are Young Futures Digital. We are a company in London that builds technology with young people and communities. Sometimes we ask young people to help us design things, test things or tell us what is happening in their area.

What we might ask you for

  • Your first name, or a name you choose, so we know who said what in a session.
  • Your age range, so we make sure activities are right for you.
  • Your ideas, drawings, notes and opinions. These are the most important thing.
  • Contact details for a parent, carer or youth worker if we need to arrange something with them.
  • Bank or payment details if you are being paid for your time. We keep these separately and only use them to pay you.

What we will not do

  • We will not sell your information to anyone.
  • We will not track where you are. Any app we build that uses location has it switched off unless you choose to turn it on, and we never show your location to other people.
  • We will not put your photo or your full name on our website or social media without asking you and, if you are under 18, a parent or carer.
  • We will not use your ideas without saying they came from young people who took part.

Why we ask

We ask for information so that we can run sessions safely, pay you properly, understand what you are telling us and show you what changed because of what you said. We only collect what we need for those reasons.

If you tell us something worrying

If you tell us something that makes us worried about your safety or someone else’s, we will not keep it secret. We will talk to the safeguarding lead where the session is happening and, if needed, to people whose job it is to keep you safe. We will tell you what we are doing where it is safe to do so.

Your choices

  • Taking part is your choice. You can stop at any time and you do not have to say why.
  • You can ask to see what we have written down about you.
  • You can ask us to change or delete it.
  • You can ask a parent, carer or youth worker to do this for you.

How to contact us

Email privacy@youngfuturesdigital.co.uk. You can also ask the youth worker or teacher who introduced us to pass a message on. If you are not happy with how we handled your information you can tell the Information Commissioner’s Office, which is the organisation in the UK that checks how companies use information.

If you are worried about your safety or someone else’s, you can talk to Childline for free on 0800 1111, any time. If you are in danger right now, call 999.
